Not yet got your Income Tax Refund! What to do ?
When you pay Income Tax more than what you should pay, you will get a refund of
the excess amount paid to the government; this is called Income Tax Refund. Normally,
one may receive the refund within 4-5 months from the date of filing of return.
If you do not receive your Income Tax Refund within such period then you may follow
the following steps.
- Go to www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in Login through your PAN no., date of birth
and password. If you are a new user then first register yourself in the above website
and then login.
- Go to My Account, Refund/Demand Status and check the status of refund for the relevant
assessment Year.
- The Status may be:-
- Refund Paid
- Refund Unpaid
- Not determined
Let us discuss each status separately.
(i) Refund Paid
If the status shown is of Refund Paid and you have still not received the refund
then go to link
https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/oltas/refundstatuslogin.html and check the status
of refund paid.
- If the status says that refund could not be paid because of wrong bank account details
then you will have to speed post the following to “Income Tax Department – CPC,
Post Bag – 1, Electronic City Post Office, Bangalore – 560 100, Karnataka.
- If the status says cheque has been issued and you have not received the refund within
10 days of the date mentioned in the refund status then call CPC @ 18004252229 and
follow their instructions. CPC may ask you to speed post the correct bank details.
- If your problem is yet not redressed then resend refund request. For this you may
log on to www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in and go to My Account, Refund Reissue
Request.
(ii) Refund Unpaid
If the status shown is of Refund Unpaid then the reason will also be mentioned.
- If you are not satisfied with the reason then you may call CPC @ 18004252229 and
follow their instructions.
- If your problem is yet not redressed then resend refund request. For this you may
log on to www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in and go to My Account, Refund Reissue
Request.
(iii) Not determined
If the status shown is of Not Determined then it means your ITR has not yet been
processed. All you need to do is, wait for your ITR to get processed.
